Good News: First-grader parts with waist-length locks for kids without

Her grandmother was teary-eyed, but 7-year-old Katie Coleman had a smile on her face. After all, it was her idea to have her thick shiny blond tresses lopped off.

Katie, a first-grader at Chaffee Trail Elementary School, had seen a television commercial about Locks of Love, a nonprofit that makes wigs for children who have lost hair due to medical conditions. Katie had let her locks grow to her waist because she always wanted long hair. But she told mom Stephanie Coleman that she wanted to donate to the organization.
